Finally! I don’t mean that as “it’s about time” but more like “it’s finally almost here”. When I first met M.i, which was 1 ½ years ago, he had wrapped up The Jack Johnson Sessions a while ago, he was getting into Prep Time and he was conceiving The Coldplay Sessions.
I remember him asking me what I thought about project with the foundation of Coldplay music and I told him I loved it. And I still do. But the main thing I wanted to contribute at the time was a really clever, fitting, and iconic album artwork.
Terrible, right?
This was the first draft. I came across this a few days ago and had to laugh. Back then I was really into making MS paint versions of things like, funny stories, experiences, and sports. So this was my real attempt at making the cover for the project.
After a few YouTube tutorials of Adobe Illustrator, I came up with a more color-correct, and more detailed version of my initial idea.

But it didn’t really come together until Tyler suggested we add some depth. We spent hours looking for things to work with the center of the cover as well as not be too distracting on the edges, and still look really great. Last night M.i dropped the cover as well as the track list and first music video for the project. And after over a year of coming up with the concept, spending that year tweaking it, and putting the finishing touches, we’re finally seeing all this hard work come to fruition. I know everyone may not like it but I’m really proud of this artwork. Busy day.
The Coldplay Sessions comes out February 21st.
